The Reflection of the Heavens Part 2

Tuesday 21 March (2006)

This is the second of three poems from my Reflection Of The Heavens set, titled The Moon. It’s probably the weakest of the three due to some horrible forced rhymes, but tell me what you think.

The Moon

Father of the sky, shepherd of the stars
Stroll across the night with your roaming eye
Looking down at me, I look you back
We are not so different, you and I

So bright against the black night sky
A pearl in the endless ocean
Shining always, evermore
It is an illusion
The power of your light is but a reflection
Of something greater –
And you lack its warmth

Appearing temperamental
You dance across the heavens
An evocative ballet
But your moods are ordained
Waning, then waxing
It is all part of the cosmic show

Throughout it all you cower here
You know you lost the fight
You haven’t gotten any power
So you’re hiding in the night
Which is why even when you are full
In your brightest light and coolest glow
Shining down from on high
You will always have a dark side
And we are not so different, you and I
